About Me.
Julia Gaudioso is a NYC based director who has a passion for collaborating with artists and making theatre that changes minds - especially in 2025.
After graduating from Marymount Manhattan College's Directing program in May 2023, Julia has honed in on her skills as a director and theater maker. As a queer artist, she values projects that challenge norms, and uplifts underrepresented voices - specifically individuals in the queer and transgender community. In an crisis of deep polarization, Julia believes society will turn to art and theatre performance in order to reveal both what is actually going on, and how to change it. But how can we convince an audience? Through Comedy. Specializing in political humor and commentary, Julia firmly believes that disarming a crowd with laughter will get people not only excited, but also thinking differently about the world around them. Her obsession with using humor to challenge society is inspired by works like John Kander's Cabaret (particularly the 2024 West End transfer directed by Rebecca Frecknell), Jeremy O'Harris's Slave Play (2019 Broadway production), and Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties by Jen Silverman. These plays, and those alike, explore varying themes, but at their core, they are harsh commentaries on societal factions- delivered with razor-sharp humor. The goal is for people to leave with realities that may make them uncomfortable, but also may illuminate a new path forward. Staying mission-driven, Julia also works as the Executive Office Coordinator at the Fund for the City of New York, under Chief Operating Officer Jill Borrero and President Dr. Lisette Nieves. She handles grant administration, event planning, office management, and more. This work has enhanced her administrative skills as well as expanded her network as both an artist and an activist. Julia thoroughly enjoys her role at FCNY and has found an excellent community of love and support within this work. |
